Why You Can’t Keep Cool

The weather is getting warmer here in New Mexico which means that our air conditioning systems are going to be getting used more and more often in the coming weeks and months. As the temperatures go from warm and pleasant to sweltering though you might notice that you have a problem: you can’t get your home cool like it used to.

You could write this off as a byproduct of the high summertime temperatures but we urge you to take a moment and really check on your cooling system. If there is something wrong with your A/C, or if there is something else going on with your home that is hindering your comfort, the sooner you identify and address the problem, the better things will be.

Here are some reasons why you might not be able to get your home as cool and comfortable as you might like.

Why You Can’t Keep Your Home Cool?

There is more than one reason why it is getting harder to keep your home cool and comfortable. Check out some of these possibilities to make sure you’re doing everything possible to ensure your home comfort.

  • There are air leaks in the home. If your windows, doors, or ductwork have any air leaks, it is going to impact your home’s ability to hold onto the cool air inside of it. You can address these problems with weatherstripping, caulking, or duct sealing or repairs.
  • Your filter is clogged. The filter for your air conditioner can become oversaturated with dust and dirt. If this occurs, it can hinder the airflow to your air conditioner and negatively impact your home comfort. Changing out or cleaning your filter every few months will help to avoid this problem.
  • Your A/C is battling with the sunlight. If you have nice windows around your home, it helps to keep the blinds or curtains closed in the rooms that are getting the most sunshine. This will help your air conditioner cool the rooms a lot more easily rather than forcing it to fight with the heat coming through those windows.
  • Your system needs repairs. If your home A/C needs to be fixed it will show up in how cool it can keep your home. A system in need of repairs won’t be able to keep your home cool the way it is meant to. Watch out for concerning noises, high energy bills, and stunted cooling cycles to see if you need to reach out for a system repair.
