What Are Evaporative Coolers?

As summers approach, there is an increase in air conditioner sales. Along with it, consumers look towards alternative ways to keep cool.

One of the ways you might switch things up is with an evaporative cooler. Whether it’s more efficient or less costly than an air conditioner, you need to decide it as per your needs. But it is certainly better than traditional cooling appliances.

So before making that purchase, hold up, and read this article to know more.

What are Evaporative Coolers?

Evaporative coolers make use of evaporation to give off cool air. As the liquid water evaporates into a gas, there’s a drop in temperature, and this creates a cooling effect. This is similar to taking a cold shower on a hot day or putting a cool cloth against your skin.

The temperature difference provides a cooling effect.

If you’ve heard of a “swamp cooler,” then you’ve heard of an evaporative cooler. These are one in the same. “Swamp cooler” is just a more casual term for the system.

Are Evaporative Coolers Effective?

This depends on where you live. Evaporative coolers work best in a dry climate. This is why they’re perfect for our dry, arid New Mexico climate.

Evaporative coolers are also great because of all the following reasons.

1. Energy Efficiency

They are energy efficient because they use little electricity as compared to a standard air conditioning unit.

2. No Refrigerant Usage or Leakage

As compared to a traditional air conditioner, evaporative coolers do not use refrigerants which is harmful in case of a leak. This allows for good quality of air inside homes.

3. Eco-friendly

It uses water as its main component along with a fan to generate cool air. Don’t worry about using too much water though! We know this is a common concern in our area. It should be kept in mind that it uses 98% less water than an average shower annually.

4. Reduced Maintenance Costs

Evaporative coolers maintenance is extremely easy and cost-effective when compared to standard HVAC systems. It only requires yearly service by an experienced expert to make the system run efficiently.

5. Usage Flexibility

Do you have kids and pets that keep going in and out of rooms? You can use an evaporative cooler with windows and doors open. It does not need closed doors as we do in an air conditioner.

6. Indoor & Outdoor spaces

This is probably the biggest advantage of using an evaporative cooler. You can use it to set up in your garage or garden as well as your lounge or dining area.

Installing an Evaporative Cooler

If you are looking to install an evaporative cooler, then you should consider a few things. Think about the location you will be choosing. You should choose a place where water can be easily available. You should also think about the team you want to perform the work. You want a team you can rely on and that’s us!
