Tips For Your New Central Air System

Change filters regularly

Clogged air filters reduce airflow and make heating and cooling systems work longer and harder. Clean filters mean less housework, too. Change your filter at least 4 times per year.

Keep compressors free and Clear

Tips for Central Air System

Central air conditioning and heat pump systems rely on outdoor compressor units to exchange hot air for cold. To do the job, these units need unobstructed surroundings. Each spring and fall, check the area around the compressors for obstructions. Use a brush or garden hose to remove any leaves, cotton, or other debris that might restrict airflow. Trim any shrubs or plants. Make sure compressors are free to breath!

Schedule service calls early

Regular maintenance is a must for cost-effective home heating. Seasonal visits from maintenance technicians will keep furnaces tuned – and spot any costly problems early, while they’re easy to repair. But call early; don’t wait for the first chilly night or hot day. Or better yet, let us call you and schedule at your convenience when you sign up for our Valued Customer Club maintenance program.

Keep furnace closets clean

Furnaces rely on adequate airflow to properly burn fuel to heat your home. Keeping storage items and debris away from the furnace will allow the air to flow freely. Also sweeping or vacuuming around the unit is a great way to ensure your furnace is burning clean air.

Fine-tune thermostats

Try to keep thermostat temperatures steady for best comfort and energy savings. Lowering the temperature a few degrees while you’re away for the day or sleeping at night is a great way to save energy. Similarly, avoid the turn-it-up, turn-it-down habit…this can end up costing you more on your utility bill.

Ask for advice

While he’s on the premises, ask the service technician for advice about your heating and cooling systems. Our technicians are happy to give you specific pointers on how to keep your unit running efficiently.

Hearing strange noises

Your equipment should sound like it does when it was first installed. If you are hearing something different i.e.; much louder than normal, grinding or any other obnoxious sound, don’t hesitate to give us a call right away. Don’t forget you have an automatic 2-year installation warranty!

Let it flow

Keep your exterior doors and windows closed. Unlike a swamp cooler, cracking doors and windows does not help the airflow, it hurts it. Also, keeping all of your interior doors open helps the air circulate throughout your home. Using ceiling fans can help keep you comfortable as well. Just remember ceiling fans cool people, not rooms, so turn them off when not in use to reduce energy costs.
