3 Ways to Help Your AC Unit Finish the Year Strong

September is here and we hope you enjoyed your three-day weekend. Fall and the cooler temperatures it brings are still a little ways away but, because we like in New Mexico, we want to make sure that you keep your air conditioner in mind. Just because the temperatures may start getting cooler in a few weeks doesn’t mean you can’t make a good effort to help your AC unit finish out the year in good shape. Here are some easy tips to help you help your air conditioner finish the cooling season strong:

Three Great Ways To Help Your AC Operate Well

The temperatures around here aren’t likely to take any major dips for a while. With that in mind, it is a good idea to do a few small things to help your air conditioner keep up its effectiveness so that it can finish out the year in good shape.

  1. Clean the return air duct filter. The filter that is in your AC unit’s return air duct keeps dirt, dust, and debris out of the internal components of your system. This filter needs to be cleaned (if it is reusable) or changed out (if it is disposable) every one to three months. Doing this keeps the filter from hindering airflow into your system and keeps your AC’s inner parts clean.
  2. Wipe down your vents and keep them clear. Once your air conditioner cools the air it pulls out of your home, it pumps that air out through your ducts and your vents that are throughout your house. These vents can collect dust just like any other part of your home which can end up hindering the flow of cool air into your home. The next time you take out the dusting tools, make sure to wipe down your vents to keep them clean. Also, double-check that none of your vents are being blocked by furniture or other decor.
  3. Keep the condenser unit clear. The condenser unit for your air conditioner is outside your home. This unit is responsible for venting the heat that your refrigerant collects from the hot air in your home. If the condenser unit is covered in leaves, branches, or other debris though this can hinder that release of heat which can cause problems for your system.

Why Do I Still Want to Keep Up My AC System?

We all know that fall is going to be on the horizon soon and you are likely going to be using your air conditioner less and less. However, that doesn’t mean you should be any less careful about how well you care for this system. After all, helping out your air conditioner now means that this system will have an easier time kicking off the cooling season next year.

The best thing you can do to help your system out if it isn’t operating optimally is to schedule maintenance. Our air conditioning maintenance program is going to help keep your AC system in great shape without costing you an egregious amount of money.
