Here’s How You Can Keep Your AC in Good Shape This Summer

air-conditioning-condenser-flowerSummer is right around the corner, and any minute now, the clouds will make way for the sun, temperatures will start to rise, and you’ll be out doing all the things you love to do, like eating ice cream, planning a BBQ with your neighbors, diving into your pool, and last but certainly not least, scheduling your air conditioning service in Aztec, NM.

We all make great use of our air conditioners, especially here in New Mexico, but using it at full blast isn’t necessarily fun — your bills will increase and you will likely find yourself calling for some pretty costly repairs. Therefore, it is important to take care of your AC and make sure that it is fully equipped to keep up with all your cooling demands. So below, we have provided you with a list of tips and tricks to keep your AC in good shape this summer. So, what are you waiting for? Keep reading!

Here’s What You Can Do

There are plenty of ways to ensure that your air conditioner works efficiently and effectively all summer long:

One: Change Your Air Filter

Perhaps the simplest thing that you can do to protect your air conditioner is changing out your air filter on a regular basis. A clogged air filter can lead to all sorts of operational problems and leave you to deal with some pretty costly repairs. Therefore, we recommend changing out your air filter every 1 to 3 months during the summer season. If you are not sure how to, have your local HVAC technician show you the ropes.

Two: Call For Backup

Your air conditioner could use a break every once and a while, so it is important to take some of the burden off of it by doing the following:

  • Use your ceiling fan: Your ceiling fan is like your AC’s supportive best friend, helping to circulate cool, conditioned air throughout your home. When you turn on your ceiling fan on during a hot, summer day, your AC won’t have to work so hard to do its job.
  • Close your curtains: By closing your curtains on your south-facing windows during the day, you can block out much of the sun’s heat. This makes it so that your home feels cooler, taking much of the strain off of your AC.

Three: Use a Programmable Thermostat

A programmable thermostat allows you to preset certain temperatures for certain hours of the day. This way, you won’t waste any energy cooling unoccupied or unused spaces of your home. Why make your AC work hard to cool off your home if you aren’t even there? Investing in a programmable thermostat is a great way to protect your AC and cut back on energy costs.

Four: Schedule Maintenance

Annual maintenance is the best way to protect your system and ensure that it has a long and successful service life. During your maintenance visit, your HVAC technician will thoroughly inspect your system to locate and correct minor issues before they become major. We recommend scheduling your maintenance services ahead of the summer season so that you can be sure it is equipped to keep up with all your cooling needs.
