7 Ways to Optimize Your AC Efficiency

house-and-money

This summer is already ramping up to be a challenge. We are all going to have to be smart about how we go about our days in order to stay cool and relatively comfortable.

If you are going to be relying on your air conditioner in Farmington, NM to keep you cool, you aren’t alone. This system is meant to keep you cool! But it can cost you if you aren’t careful. Running an air conditioner improperly or inefficiently can create energy bills that make you question if your comfort is worth it!

Here are some tips to help you run your AC this season in a way that is energy efficient and effective at once.

7 Tips To Help You Enjoy an Efficient and Effective AC Unit

Use these guidelines to help you get the best effectiveness and efficiency level from your air conditioner this summer. That way you can enjoy reliable comfort without exorbitant costs.

1. Keep doors and windows closed.

We understand that sometimes it is nice to get some fresh air but we’d advise stepping outside rather than cracking a window to get that breeze. Keeping your doors and windows closed keeps the cool air indoors where it belongs and prevents the home from heating up more quickly and increasing the amount of work your AC has to do.

2. Check for air leaks to address

An open window isn’t the only thing that will let the heat in. Cracks in the seals of your doors or windows can also be a source of hot air leaking into the house. Make sure to check for air leaks so you can address them before they increase your energy bills.

3. Make sure all vents are clean and unblocked

The next time you decide to dust, make sure to wipe down your vents or air handlers. This removal of dust and debris will ensure that air can flow into your home unhindered. Make sure to keep these parts of your system open and unblocked by furniture or decor as well.

4. Change your system filter

Changing your HVAC filter every one to three months ensures that your system will work effectively and efficiently through the season. This improves airflow and can even help to improve air quality a little bit too.

5. Use fans to feel cooler

A fan won’t cool the temperature of the air. However, using a fan can help you feel cooler which will make it easier to turn up the thermostat and reduce your demand on your HVAC system–saving you money and energy!

6. Adjust the thermostat a few degrees higher

We’d also advise raising the thermostat setting. Too often, people have their thermostat set far lower than is advisable, costing them a lot of extra money in increased energy use. Keeping your thermostat set between 78 to 80° can help you keep the house reasonably comfortable without straining your AC or jacking up your energy bills.

7. Make sure your AC gets the maintenance and repairs it needs.

Last but certainly not least, make sure to get your air conditioner regular yearly maintenance and prompt repairs when the need arises! This makes a bigger difference than you may realize, especially when you have an expert technician like ours perform the job.
