4 Qualities of a Great HVAC Contractor

contractor-air-conditioning-smileThere are plenty of people out there willing to do work on your HVAC system (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). Many of them have little or no experience in the industry and are hoping to learn a thing or two by working on your system. It’s a nice thought, but we don’t recommend putting the wellbeing of this important equipment at risk. (Faulty installation or repairs are some of the top causes of premature system failure.)

Thankfully, there are plenty of qualified HVAC contractors out there, too. But only some of these are great technicians with training and skills that go above and beyond along with a company you can always trust. Here are the qualities to look for to know your HVAC system is in good hands.

Installation, Repair, and More

We think it’s important to work with a company that offers every service you might need over the years. Right now, you may only be looking for an installer, but in the near future, you should have that system maintained. If you choose a company that only offers installation, you’ll have to start the process over again when you need service. It’s much better to find trusted technicians now that you can call whenever you need them.

Find technicians who can install or service your equipment, who you’ll want to work with time and time again. They should also offer indoor air quality services—whatever you need to stay comfortable!

NATE Certification

NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification is the most widely-recognized certification in the industry. Not every company hires NATE-certified technicians. It’s not required to work in the field, but it indicates that technicians have studied hard enough and had enough experience to pass rigorous tests to prove qualifications in HVAC in general and/or in a specialized area (like heat pumps).

Emergency Service Available

What if you need heating or air conditioning service in the middle of the night? Many people think they have to tough it out and wait until regular business hours. They are surprised to hear that our company (and others) offers 24-hour emergency services when you need them.

This is a sign of a contractor that truly cares about the people who live and work in their neighborhood. Again, for now, you may need a different service, like a furnace installation. But you’ll be glad, when you furnace breaks down suddenly, that you know the name of a trusted company you can call at any time.

An Excellent Maintenance Program

Last but not least, great HVAC contractors have an awesome maintenance program to match. A maintenance program is an agreement you enter into with a local contractor. You agree to a set payment schedule, and they will send someone out to your home to maintain your equipment twice a year. You benefit with…

  • Better system efficiency.
  • Fewer repairs.
  • A longer-lasting system.

Best of all, some maintenance programs come with additional benefits for loyal customers. With our Gold maintenance plan, for example, you save 15% on services all year and get $50 accrued toward the purchase of your next heating, air conditioning, or indoor air quality system!
